Help Madina was asked by the community if we could help people living with hernias — and it’s become one of our most needed, and most successful, projects.

Why It Matters

Most people with hernias in and around Madina are hardworking farmers, who depend entirely on their own physical labour to survive. A hernia can be extremely painful, and often makes that work impossible. Without treatment, a single untreated hernia can be enough to push a whole family into poverty.

Our Approach

Help Madina covers the majority cost of hernia repair surgery, performed at Kambia Government Hospital. The project has proven hugely successful — so much so that we now have a long waiting list of people desperate for surgery.

Between 2022 and 2026, over 150 patients have had a successful hernia operation.
